product care

All our products are of the finest quality and have been manufactured and designed to give long lasting satisfaction.

Our quilts have been carefully hand-crafted using traditional methods and therefore require special attention to ensure their qualities give long lasting satisfaction.
  • Made of 100% cotton or linen these quilts can be machine washed on a delicate cycle in lukewarm water.  We suggest you use a professional dry cleaning company and ask for the item to be wet washed and line dried.
  • Avoid spot cleaning or soaking as this may cause the fabric to bleed.
  • Do not bleach, dry clean or tumble dry.
  • Hang to dry promptly after washing.
  • Gently pull quilt into shape while still damp to lessen shrinkage of 5-7%.
  • Avoid direct sunlight.
  • Natural dyes have been used in the dying and printing of these fabrics so there may be some fading over time.   However this adds to the heirloom quality of the quilt.

Linen is the strongest of all natural fibres and easy to maintain if cared for properly.   It has a natural beauty and washes well, becoming softer and more luminous with age.  It will provide many years of enjoyment and is often passed down through generations as a much loved and beautiful heirloom.

Before using your tea towels soak them in cold water for 24 hours.  The natural fibres swell and this will make them extremely absorbent, drying your dishes beautifully.  They can then be washed on a warm machine cycle with a small amount of detergent.

Washing bed linen

Our bed linen is of the finest quality and provided you follow these guidelines it should continue looking good for many years to come.
Bed linens should be laundered each week to avoid discoloration, especially those which are white.  Darks and whites should always be washed separately at 40 degrees.   Boiling white linens is not recommended as modern detergents are designed to clean at low temperatures.    Bleaching agents and enzymes can damage the fabric.  Detergents or powders should not come in direct contact with fabric.   If washing by hand ensure that detergents are completely dissolved before immersing in water.

Drying

We do not recommend drying your sheets in the clothes drier.  The best results are achieved by hanging on a clothes line outdoors, and folding the sheets as you take them off the line to reduce creasing.

Ironing

To make ironing easier correct washing and drying will reduce creasing.   Over time the natural fibres soften and the creasing will lessen.  Using a steam iron while still damp will give best results.  If linen becomes too dry, spray with a water spray.  Our Italian bed linen is scented and adds to the feeling of luxury.
Folding sheets and duvet covers in half lengthways when ironing will make handling easier.
We suggest that when ironing pillowcases, iron from the outside in to avoid creasing in the corners.  Ironing on the reverse side is recommended for any embroidered or enhanced product to preserve and protect it.

Your silk product will last a lifetime if proper care is taken.
  • Always use a removable cover to protect the silk product from dirt and stains.
  • Air outdoors every 3 months for 2 hours and up to a maximum of 3 hours.
This should be all that is needed to keep your silk product fresh and clean.  Silk fibres do not absorb moisture or odours, avoiding the necessity to wash your inner to freshen it up.
SILK PRODUCTS ARE NOT INTENDED FOR USE IN CIRCUMSTANCES WEHRE FREQUENT COMPLETE CLEANING IS NECESSARY.  ONLY USE PROFESSIONAL DRY CLEANING WHEN ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL BUT NOT TOO OFTEN.
Should your silk product require deeper cleaning, please follow these steps:
  • Isolate the soiled area only and hand wash with cold water and a very gently washing agent. (A special silk washing agent is perfect.)
  • Do not use bleach or strong detergents.
  • Rinse thoroughly and squeeze excess water by pressing the two sides of the silk product together.
  • Do not wring.
  • Dry flat.
  • Dry cleaning uses chemicals which may damage the silk fibres and it is not recommended.
  • Do not tumble dry or iron.
Do not shake silk product strongly as this may displace the hand layered silk floss. Damage to your silk product caused by incorrect care will void your warranty.

The brass items are hand beaten, therefore slight irregularities are part of their character. The green patina finish has been applied using traditional hand painting methods, therefore we advise against using it outdoors or near water. To clean, use a soft, dry cloth and rub lightly. Brass naturally tarnishes over time which adds to the character of this product.
